The Many Great Guitarists of Blue Coast Records
Great sounding instruments played by incredible talents of our generation. Guitars and variations of string instruments are played in the style of blues, new age, flamenco, bluegrass, and jazz.
Alex De Grassi

Alex de Grassi has a way with his guitar. On Shenandoah, his performances tell a story, transport us to a different world. It is a reflection of emotional sensitivity, of being able to express feeling through pure musical expression. Shenandoah was recorded by Cookie Marenco using Blue Coast Record's Extended Sound Environment technique (E.S.E.) to capture Alex's incredible sound on DSD. The warmth and diversity of textures you hear are both a testament to de Grassi’s adeptness as a guitarist and Marenco’s masterful skill in capturing his performance in such an organic and precise way. Many of you will remember Alex from his albums on Windham Hill Records.
Tony Furtado

To call Tony Furtado a virtuoso on the guitar and banjo would be an understatement. Sure, he has won a few national competitions for banjo. Sure, he is a master slide guitarist. But to simply point out his technical skills is to miss what makes him special. Tony has a way of making his stringed instruments sing in a way few can. Whether a solitary line or played over harmonic fingerpicking, whether fast or slow, his melodies ring out with moving clarity and beauty.
Firecracker offers a diverse range of styles, a testament to Tony’s ability to excel in anything from lighting fast bluegrass to tender, slow ballads. The album opener, “Angeline The Baker” is a rush of bluegrass guitar energy. As Tony blazes through precise fingerpicking, his melodies never get lost even amidst the onslaught of furious notes.
Jason McGuire

At close range, Jason’s playing was astounding. I often think of the acoustic guitar as a small-sounding instrument, but on its own, in a room that could not have held far more than 20 people, it was a mighty force. If I was struck by the depth of Jason’s sound, and the length of its natural decay within the guitar’s resonant body, I was literally stunned by the contrast between the softness of his touch in more ruminative passages and the brutality of his rapid strums on multiple strings and alarming raps on the guitar’s body.

Jenner Fox - A taste of country, folk, blues and pop with an acoustic guitar twist!

Not everyone adapts to performing live in the studio with all the instruments in the same room. There is no going back on a small mistake. But those artists who relish telling a story and delivering passionate performances thrive in this environment. Jenner Fox is one of those artists. An old soul writing and singing songs from his soul.
We offer this song as a single in multiple formats of DSD, FLAC, and WAV. It’s an excellent way to test your systems. The song is also part of the Taos album.

Keith Greeninger sings his heart out!

Into the Mystic is a beloved Van Morrison song. Keith, Chris Kee (bass) and Brain (drums) came into the studio to help demonstrate DSD live recording to NPR. The recordings became an incredible album called Close to the Soul.
