The Many Great Solo Pianists of Blue Coast Records
This week we feature just a few of the great piano artists who have come to our studio and performed on our 1885 Steinway Piano. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
Eamonn Flynn

Eamonn Flynn was born into a musical family in Dublin, Ireland. His soulful mastery on piano, keys, and organ landed him on the 12 million selling movie soundtrack for "The Commitments." He’s recorded & toured worldwide with many major artists including Michael Franti & Spearhead, Elvin Bishop, Coco Montoya, Michelle Shocked, Evelyn "Champagne" King and a ten year stint with New Orleans drumming legend Zigaboo Modeliste. Eamonn's solo albums reflect a unique blend of Irish & American influences, expressing music that is rich, heart-warming and rousing...a fusion that Eamonn himself calls "Irish Soul".
Jo Hogg

For those who want the heart and soul of a performance, Joanne Hogg is the essence of an artist. With a touch of Celtic impressionism that meets pop, she brings vulnerability and emotion to her music. Into Your Dreams is Jo’s first solo piano album. On the album, Trust, Jo brings her emotional lyrics and poignant voice to her accomplished pianist skills. The first track, “Little Brother”, brought tears to everyone in the studio as she performed it live. Jo is probably best known for her work with the UK based Celtic rock band called IONA.
John R. Burr

John R. Burr is a musician of wide ranging and diverse style. Although firmly rooted in Blues and Jazz, he is heavily influenced by his love of vocal music, ranging from the Beatles to traditional Celtic folk songs. A sought-after accompanist and arranger on the Bay Area music scene, regularly appearing with Jackie Ryan, Kenny Washington, Nicolas Bearde and Laurie Lewis. Through his touring and recording with vocalist Maria Muldaur, he became enamored with the piano stylings of the New Orleans piano masters James Booker, Professor Longhair and Dr John. These 3 albums feature John R as part of a duo or as a solo pianist (on the album Quarter Tones).
Art Lande

Art Lande is no stranger to recording having released several albums for ECM, Windham Hill and dozens of recordings on independent labels. He performed with artists such as Charlie Haden, Mark Isham, Woody Shaw, Jan Garbarek, Paul McCandless, Joe Henderson and Nguyèn Lè. Art tours the world in various ensembles under his own name and as a popular sideman. Not only is he a sought after sideman, he is also well known as a teacher and mentor to hundreds of jazz artists now leading bands of their own.

And a little more….
I take special pride in recording the piano. I began playing classical music when I was 4. At 14, I began teaching piano and at 18 I had 80 piano students. Even though I had a scholarship for music, I left the university early to pursue a career as a jazz musician. Art Lande was my first jazz teacher. After a long search for the right instrument, I waited 2 years for my Steinway to be rebuilt. It only has 85 keys. So far, no one has complained. From the time I opened OTR Studios, my 7’ Steinway has been sought out from players all over the world. It’s a very special instrument and I love having others play it.
Have a wonderful week and
Enjoy your listening!
